Small dogs have a higher metabolism relative to their body weight and need smaller kibble that fits comfortably into a small mouth. Our two recipes for small breeds, Chicken & Sweet Potato and Salmon, Trout & Sweet Potato, are tailored exactly to this.

Both recipes are grain-free and provide high-quality protein for Chihuahuas, Maltese, Dachshunds, Yorkshire Terriers and other small breeds. Chicken & Sweet Potato offers a mild poultry profile, while Salmon, Trout & Sweet Potato brings two types of fish and therefore natural fatty acids to the bowl, both without unnecessary additives.

The compact kibble size makes chewing easier for small jaws and ensures that even fussy small breeds eat reliably, without dawdling over the bowl or leaving leftovers. This is especially noticeable in breeds with sensitive teeth or those teething as puppies.

As small dogs need comparatively little food per day, it's worth checking the feeding guide on the packaging to avoid over- or underfeeding. Two to three smaller meals a day have proven effective for many small breeds.

Both recipes are free from artificial flavours and colourants. This gives your small four-legged friend a complete, balanced food that suits their size, energy needs and taste, whether they prefer poultry or fish.

Beyond the kibble size itself, energy density also plays a role for small breeds, as Chihuahuas, Maltese or Yorkshire Terriers often eat only small daily rations that still need to contain all the essential nutrients. Both recipes are designed with this in mind and can easily be soaked in warm water if needed, for example for small-breed puppies teething or for older dogs with weaker teeth. Anyone wanting to offer chews as well will find smaller formats in our range too, such as goat ears or chicken feet, which suit the compact kibble size nicely. This keeps the entire feeding routine, from main meals to between-meal treats, consistently tailored to small dog breeds.

Which of the two recipes suits best depends mainly on your dog's taste: if they prefer something hearty, Chicken & Sweet Potato is usually the first choice, while a slightly fishy note points to Salmon, Trout & Sweet Potato. If you're unsure, a small trial pack can help before committing to one recipe.

An opened bag stays fresh longest when kept well sealed and stored in a dry place, ideally away from direct sunlight. As small breeds tend to gain weight quickly, it's also worth keeping an eye on any additional chews and treats, so the overall daily balance stays right.

Guide

Dry Food for Small Breeds: häufig gefragt

💡
