Goat Meat for Dogs

Goat meat is one of the rarer raw materials in the dog bowl, and that is exactly what makes it interesting for many sensitive dogs. It is very lean, considered particularly well tolerated and hardly used in classic canine nutrition. We explain what makes goat meat a food ingredient, why it can be interesting for dogs and how NANDOO uses it.

What is goat meat?

Goat meat, as the name says, comes from the goat and is one of the lean red meats. It has a mild, slightly spicy taste and in pet food is mostly processed as pure muscle meat. Compared with many other types of meat, goat meat is naturally low in fat while having a high protein content.

Because goat has so far hardly featured in classic canine nutrition, it counts for most dogs as a genuine novel protein, meaning a protein source your dog has not yet come into contact with.

Why goat meat for dogs?

Precisely because goat meat appears so rarely in classic recipes, it has a very low allergy potential for most dogs. It provides high-quality protein in a lean, easily digestible form and can therefore be a good option for dogs who already react sensitively to many common proteins. As a complement to known protein sources, goat also brings variety to your dog's feeding plan.

Goat meat is particularly interesting for:

  • Dogs with known intolerances to frequently fed proteins
  • Dogs on an elimination diet, where a new, unused protein source is needed
  • Dog parents who want to deliberately bring variety to the menu
Good to know: goat meat is not produced in the EU. If the origin of a product matters to you, it is always worth checking the exact labelling of the respective recipe before deciding.

Goat meat at NANDOO

At NANDOO, goat meat is declared openly and as a single protein. You won't find it hidden behind collective terms, but clearly named in the ingredients list, so that you, as a dog parent, can follow exactly what ends up in the bowl.

Even with a raw material as rare as goat, honest labelling matters to us, both for the ingredient itself and for its origin. This way, you can calmly weigh up whether a recipe with goat suits your dog and your own standards.

If you are specifically looking for recipes with goat meat, you will find our selection in the Goat category.

Goat meat shows how a rare raw material can open up new options in the bowl for sensitive dogs, provided it is transparently labelled. You can find more such raw materials and their significance for canine nutrition in our raw materials glossary.
